Sounds like Smuda is picking up the slack. Maybe we will see a serviceable NT beat Romania and Canada in November to get some of our honour back. Boenisch is the weakest link on defense on his German club team... which means he is still probably better than 3 quarters of our current defenders. Does he even have any Polish roots, or just born in Poland?
Wait, isn't this the same guy that was quoted on some German sports show to say that he did not want to play for Poland? I thought Beenhaker had wanted to get this guy, but Boenisch rejected Poland in the end. I don't think I'd want this guy playing for our country. He sounds more interested in money or lifestyle rather than glory. He's 100% German.

Boenisch wanted a starting sop right away but was not guaranteed one so that's why he was complaining. That was a while ago and now I guess he has become clearly better or Smuda is prepared to offer him that.

So apparantly Boenisch has agreed to play for out NT! Smuda's new assistant Waldoch was able to convince him to play becasue they knwo each ohter from Wladoch's days of playing there.

Truth be told, Boenisch isn't the greatest of defenders. Actually, he's probably the worst on Werder Bremen. From what I've read up on him, and seen from clips, he's really tall and lanky, and as a young guy, playing in U-21 for Germany, he was pretty good. After that, his developement seems to have tapered off, and he doesn't have that great of an advantage with his size anymore.
And anyway, if he wants to play for Poland, why doesn't he say so? Each time he's asked, he dodges the question. It's clear to see he's German, even though he was born in Poland, and that his heart is with the German NT, but he's simply not good enough to make their team... Do we really want this guy representing our country? Obviously, he isn't all that good. German scouts are among the best in the world, and they havn't looked twice at this guy.
Krzynowek seems to have echoed my thoughts, too...

How can he be the worst on Bremen if he is starting all the time...................
Anyway now he is saying that no one has talked to him and that he knows nothing. I think he is just trying to rally up some media and get teh German FA to call him up.

Better to cap him and worry about whether we should play him later than not to and miss out on possibly a solid player. What's the worst thing that happens if we cap him? He plays poorly so we pick someone else? The point is we need to keep Poles playing for Poland, so that it does not become the norm and seem acceptable to play for the Germans because other Poles are doing so.

He was just pointing out he has a busy season and Poland is only playing friendlies until 2012. I think it's a fair comment, if the guy is tired from all those games would it really be worth it for him to play a meaningless friendly fatigued? Probably not.

That doesn't matter Szymek. Friendly or not, if this guy had an ounce of Polish blood in him, he'd be proud to play for Poland, and play in whatever match. For the moment, sure, Poland isn't playing any impact matches, but it's important that a new player gets acquainted, and that team strategy is developed. Some of that experience you can only gain in matches. Romania is putting in their best players, except for Mutu.
This would be like me getting asked to play for Poland's hockey team, say, when I've been trying to play for the Canadian senior team for the past few seasons. I'm not good enough, so I decide to go to play for Poland, but under a few conditions... I only go to practice when I feel like it, because I'm busy with my WHL team. Seriously, are we kidding here? I would drop everything to play for my country of origin. Obviously, Boenisch doesn't feel that way.
I really don't think it would be a good idea to take him. His attitude is all wrong, and from what I've seen, the Polish public don't want this guy representing their country. Only Smuda and the PZPN seems to be interested in this guy.
